A new record

Seeing as I am so enamored of Mike Phelps (as if the whole world, lately) I thought I would go for a record of my own.

I stayed up until 6am playing games on my iPhone.

There were moments when it was really hard. Around dawn, when Cathead started his usually serenade of the new day, I threw a ball of Peruvian yarn at him and went on with my plan to drain my phone's battery and achieve a personal best at being nocturnal and filmy.

I succeeded. I went to sleep at 6am, drug free.

And I slept until right about twenty minutes ago.

You tell me: what is your personal best for not sleeping for no reason?

Do I even get a Gold medal? Has any one of you bested me?

You get the gold!
However, I haven't been able to sleep well all night every night (unless drunk) in so long it's ridiculous.
My record is not going to sleep at all, but that was at Dead shows, and therefore usually drug fueled.

36 hours is my record. Do I get a medal?

Sleep is a wonderful thing that I often can't seem to find. When I skip a night of sleep I'll often go 42 hours without it.

My personal best was not sleeping until after 7am because there was an overnight TV marathon on of Brisco County. I had to get up at 9 to work at Borders. It sucked.

I bet that particular falling asleep was lovely.

Ah, yes... "One more level." I haven't been able to pull that off since the days I waited tables and could sleep from 8 am - 2 pm.

I give you the gold. I will whistle the Olympic theme in your honor.

I'm assuming we're not counting college or grad school here. Because I regularly pulled "all-nighters," either while partying or to write a paper, staying awake all through the night and then not sleeping until the next night. So, as Utenzi said, around 42 hours or so.

Even now, at my ridiculously advanced age, I still often stay up until daylight just because I got caught up in one crime-show marathon or another (secret shame? CSI *MIAMI*, not even one of the good ones...). But I always try to sleep at least one hour in my bed before going to work.

Can I counter with a different record? I once went 19 hours without peeing, because we were on an overnight climb and I refused to pee out in the open on rocks. 19 hours! Man, I wonder what damage I did to my bladder...

I stayed up for three days, once, totally sober and drug free.

My mom is so proud.

Over the summer, when I had my reading binges, I would stay awake until dawn to finish a book. It's so quiet at night, affording me the luxury of reading without distractions. I try not to play with my sleep cycles too much, though, because it has taken me a lifetime to learn to sleep at night. :X

I think you are in a category all your own, so definitely hog that gold medal. And props to your phone b/c I doubt mine would have lasted that long.

Funny you should mention it--I was up until 2 this morning on a writing bender. Not my personal best, but the writing might have been. :)

My personal best is 76 hours with no sleep, for no reason other than I couldn't sleep. My second best is 72 hours. Insomnia is a chronic problem for me and I stopped fighting it years ago and started taking meds so that my body wouldn't break down. Even with meds I sometimes still have problems with insomnia.

You broke my record. I was staying up playing Kirbie's Avalanche.
